Another Political Bestiary

In 1978, Jeff MacNelly, Eugene McCarthy, and James J. Kilpatrick published their book, A Political Bestiary, filling its pages with biting satirical drawings and prose, and leaving its most avid reader, artist and author Danny Grosso, a teenager then, wanting for more. Here, in Another Political Bestiary, Mr. Grosso, all these years later, provides, with apologies to the original authors, a continuation of their explorations. The work features his satirical anthropomorphic renderings and companion narratives of creatures inhabiting an imaginary bestiary, that is, Washington D.C. and its environs, and acting as the district's operatives within and without the government. Beings such as the Unindicted Co-Conspirator, the Gerrymander, the Floor Leader, and the Chickenhawk are presented as if by a famous naturalist discussing the discoveries of a recent safari. The spirit of the original work that found humor in the foibles of those that worked within our system of government, on a bipartisan basis, is alive in this volume. This work will delight political junkies and general humor fans alike, and though concededly derivative, the book will provide fans of the original work a glimpse of what might have been if the authors had kept going.
